David Bonner has dedicated his life to serving others. As a proud son of a teacher and a police officer, David understood from an early age the importance of hard work and helping others, he is ready to represent the 38th District. A lifelong resident of Matteson, David served as a legal officer and administrative law attorney in the Department of the Army’s Office of The Inspector General, at the Pentagon.
Prior to his military service, David served taxpayers as an Illinois Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Trials and Prosecutions unit. He represented Illinois in state and federal court as well as prosecuted corporations for violating state labor laws. As an Assistant State’s Attorney at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, he protected taxpayers by representing the county in civil suits.
David began community organizing in high school, walking door-to-door to help local candidates in the south suburbs. He worked on Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign and was the Director of Field Operations for the Tenth Congressional District Democrats. He also served as campus counsel for President Obama’s campaign in Wisconsin.
David is a graduate of Rich Central High School. He graduated cum laude from Truman
State University in Missouri in 2007 and currently serves on its Board of Governors. He earned his law degree in 2010 from the University of Wisconsin
Law School in Madison. David is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin. Additionally, he is a member of the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) and serves on the CBA Election Law Committee.
Bonner’s legal knowledge and experience will help him fight illegal home foreclosures and predatory lending and mortgage company practices. He understands the importance of state policy and funding for local economic development, a vibrant transportation system including the Illiana expressway and third airport, property tax relief, and additional state funding for schools. He will work tirelessly to bring state resources to our area.
